The Hemper Balloon Dog XL Bong reproduces the twisted-balloon dog — the party-trick sculpture, with its pinched joints and glossy segments — in borosilicate glass at XL scale. The body forms the chamber and the neck rises from the dog's back. It was Hemper's November 2024 theme and part of the Balloon Dog family.

How it performs

The dog stands on a broad base, so it sits more steadily than most XL sculptures. It takes a standard bowl and downstem and the chamber holds a generous amount of water. The segmented look is on the outside; internally it's a single chamber with an unobstructed path.

Hemper's XL pieces are a significant step up from the regular releases — taller, wider in the chamber and noticeably heavier. This is a centrepiece rather than a bedside piece.

A note for collectors: the code JWP1124 on this piece is Hemper's date stamp for November 2024. Every theme is coded the same way, so a shelf of Hemper glass is also a timeline, and gaps in it don't get filled later.

Looking after it
